We foster cross-cultural experiences, research opportunities, and partnerships between MIT and institutions across the Asia-Pacific region — including some of the Institute’s largest international collaborators.
MIT has a long history of engaging with cutting-edge research and innovation happening across Asia-Pacific. In fact, CIS’s first country-based program began with Japan in 1981 and was quickly followed by similar programs geared towards China and India.
MIT’s connections with Asia extend to the student experience as well, with over 50 percent of MIT’s overseas student population originating from Asia and with hundreds of opportunities for global student experiences scattered across the region. Meanwhile, our faculty’s expertise in Asian politics, security, policy, and international relations enrich ongoing collaborations, fellowship opportunities, and research in the region.
CIS makes it possible for MIT students to experience the world while advancing knowledge, tackling tough challenges, and preparing for lives of impact, service, and leadership in an interconnected global society.
