Wen Deng is a PhD student in the MIT Department of Political Science and affiliated with the Center’s Security Studies Program. She specializes in comparative and international political economy, focusing on authoritarian politics, trade, and immigration policies. Her dissertation project examines how varying levels of power centralization in authoritarian regimes impact the ways in which leaders respond to pressures from the elite and the public, and how the attempt to balance these pressures affects trade policy outputs.
