Darren Janz

PhD Student

Darren is a PhD student in the MIT Department of Political Science specializing in comparative politics, and affiliated with the Center’s Global Diversity Lab. His research focuses on religion and politics in Africa, with particular interests in the causes and effects of variation in support for religious pluralism, the political mobilization of religious groups, religious identity in migrant communities, and the politics of transnational religious movements. Darren is an NSF Graduate Research Fellow and a Kenan Sahin Presidential Fellow at MIT. He holds a BA in Political Science from Duke University, where he received the 2023 Elizabeth G. Verville Award for the best honors thesis in political science.
