Community Spotlight: Suzy Claeys
Describe your role and responsibilities.
I’m the program administrator for the Center for Nuclear Security Policy (CNSP). I manage the day-to-day operations of CNSP, which includes assisting the fellows, coordinating events, supporting research, and generally making sure things run smoothly.
What did you do prior to coming to MIT?
Prior to MIT, I was a nuclear deterrence advisor for nuclear deterrence policy at the US Department of Defense. At DoD, I oversaw my office’s response to congressional requirements, supported senior DoD officials’ Congressional testimony, and managed the US-Republic of Korea extended deterrence portfolio.
What are your hobbies and interests outside of work?
I like to cook and travel. I also do a lot of yoga to help unwind.
What’s the best thing about your job?
The best part of this job is the people! We have been so fortunate to have people that make work fun and rewarding.
What do you hope to accomplish within the next year? The next 5 years?
My main goal is to establish CNSP as a hub for policy-relevant research on nuclear security and the development of next-generation thought leaders in nuclear security.
