In the wake of the tragic violence in Israel and Gaza this past weekend, the Center for International Studies (CIS) endorses the message issued by MIT president Sally Kornbluth. “The brutality perpetrated on innocent civilians in Israel by terrorists from Hamas is horrifying … we are bracing for a prolonged conflict that will also gravely harm or kill many innocent Palestinians in Gaza,” said Kornbluth in a video statement released on Tuesday, October 10.
The president also addressed the conflict’s impact on campus and her concerns for the MIT community, and we at CIS share her concern for the multiple communities directly and indirectly affected and mourn the loss of so many lives.
The horrific and unprecedented attacks this weekend will have lasting consequences for the region and beyond. In the weeks to come, experts within CIS and its affiliated programs will work to shed light on the unfolding situation in the Middle East and its global implications. We will share information about events and hope that you will engage with us. In the meantime, we invite you to explore a few archived CIS events from years' past—available here—in which various scholars from MIT and beyond discuss the long-standing Israel-Palestine conflict from a range of perspectives.
