Nigerian journalist Shola Lawal joins the MIT Center for International Studies
The Center for International Studies announces the selection of Nigerian journalist Shola Lawal as the 2019 International Women’s Media Foundation’s (IWMF) Elizabeth Neuffer Fellow. Lawal was selected from a field of 100 applicants spanning 43 countries. This unique fellowship, now in its 15th year, provides journalists with training and experience reporting on human rights and social justice issues.

M Taylor Fravel, Arthur and Ruth Sloan Professor of Political Science, has been named director of the MIT Security Studies Program. Barry Posen, Ford International Professor of Political Science and director of SSP since 2006, announced the leadership transition.

MIT International Policy Lab (IPL) issues fourth call for proposals to faculty and researchers

MIT announces today the fourth Call for Proposals from the International Policy Lab (IPL) at the Center for International Studies, which encourages academically informed solutions to major public policy challenges. The IPL works with faculty at MIT to develop strategies for engaging in two-way dialogues between scholars and policymakers, helping to ensure that public policies are informed by the best available research and that scholars understand the potential policy impact of their own work.
Journalist Una Hajdari joins CIS as the 2018 IWMF Elizabeth Neuffer Fellow
The Kosovo journalist will use her time as the Elizabeth Neuffer fellow to highlight the issues that affect the everyday lives of people in the Balkans and in Eastern Europe. “Oftentimes, outlets focus on the ‘big geopolitical narratives’ ... and neglect the stories that don’t necessarily fit into this polarized perspective.”
Admiral Scott Swift joins CIS as a Robert E Wilhelm Fellow
Adm Scott H Swift, former commander of the US Pacific Fleet, joins the MIT Center for International Studies (CIS) as a Robert E Wilhelm Fellow. Swift arrives at MIT on August 1, 2018. He retired from the US Navy on July 1, 2018.
